Engagement Rings Cheap But Real?

Published by melissa under Engagement Ring

My boyfriend and i want get married. problem is i am a bit traditional and i would like to be proposed to on one knee with a ring. Neither my boyfriend or I have good paying jobs. But he really wants to propose. Is there a place he can buy me and engagement ring that is cheap like under $200 but it won’t turn my finger green or break easily? anyone know a place like that?
I am more of a silver girl myself. and i am very easily pleased. give me something shiny to look and and i’ll be good. but honest to god only requirements are that its silver, wont turn me green, and it looks pretty and it wont break if by chance i accidentally hit my hand up against something. I am also easily offended if people spend too much money on me if that helps any

I don’t know how in-expensive a diamond you can get (like if you will find a fair quality one for under $200) but Overstock has some pretty great deals.

Also look into white sapphires. They look very similar to diamonds, and they are almost as durable as diamonds (sapphires are 9 hardness, diamonds are 10), and they are still a precious gemstone.

    Good Luck!

try a pawn shop, they have jewelry within all ranges. A suggestion that I’ve known a few friends to do; Have a cubic zirconium set in a gold ring, it will be real gold, it will not turn your finger green, and nobody but you two will know. I’ve personally known people that do this, it’s a way of being traditional until things pick up financially

China town. They tend to have the most affordable gold rings, especially if you know how to negotiate.

you can find diamonds on ebay
just look for some interesting ones with flaws (sometimes the flaws make it look even prettier) I found a nice blue diamond with feathering flaws that make it look like the night sky

you know the diamonds are real 1) because no one would bother making a flawed fake diamond 2.) because you only look at sellers with good feedback 3) someone, out of the thousands of people who buy stones from ebay sellers would have eventually figured out that the seller was crooked, so look for sellers listed as top sellers or power sellers

you can get an extraordinarily unique stone (whether you pick a diamond or a gemstone) if you search for it individually rather than pick it out in a store

and then you take the band and the stone to a jeweler and have them set it for you (takes about $30)

here’s an interesting place to get a ring setting. Their palladium settings are actually cheaper than their gold settings!

Or you can get a ziamond – a high quality cubic zirconia made specifically to look like a diamond.

Find a really nice ring you like, spend most of your budget on the ring part, and have it set with a ziamond for now. Then later on after you guys have saved up – upgrade with a real diamond. The ring stays the same and is high quality, but you change the stone later. Lots of people upgrade their stone. I was originally going to do this. A ziamond costs about $20 so I was going to spend my $400 budget on the ring. Then I found the pretty blue diamond on ebay for $200 and decided to get that and a simple band

look around and spend some time thinking about your options.

also research the specifics. Measure things out if you’re going to buy a ring online. You’ll need to know what the thinnest band you want is. I found that bands that are listed as 2mm are much too thin. And that a half carat (.5mm) diamond is a perfect size for my fingers

My daughter’s came from overstock.com. She likes yellow gold but this one is similar to hers in white gold:

http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/10k-White-Gold-1-4ct-TDW-Diamond-3-stone-Ring-J-K-I2-I3/3955121/product.html (if you’ll look at other rings over to right side, then this one appears to right side and is a better picture there, looking from top, not side. Look for the same price to know it’s this one)

Style is simple enough that you just add a simple white gold band for wedding band and you have a nice simple looking set when you are married. Hope that was helpful!

If you don’t want your finger to turn green, I would recommend you stick to real gold.
In order to keep the price down, I suggest a gemstone ring rather than looking for a cheap enough diamond.

    Here are some options:

it doesn’t have to be a ring sold as an ‘engagement ring’. it can be any ring, any gemstone you want, any metal for the setting. e-rings may be overpriced because they’re sold to guys who are looking for that type of ring. if you look at other types of rings you can probably find something cheaper.

now I wouldn’t recommend silver for the setting because it tarnishes and you’ll have to have it cleaned frequently $$$. what you want is white gold.

Go with white gold instead of silver, and you still should be able to find something nice with real diamonds.
