Large engagement ring sizes for fat fingers?

Published by melissa under Engagement Ring

I’m overweight…I think my ring size is a size 12, but it may be bigger than that. Do engagement rings only go out to size 12? Am I able to go to a local jeweler to find a ring or do I have to look elsewhere? Do I have to settle for a cheap ring or *gulp* no ring at all?

I need a larger ring because of recurrent knuckle swelling from arthritis, although I don’t need anything larger than a 10. They actually can do the ring larger for you. Get measured.

Generally a jeweler could size it. Even if the size guage things only go up to a size 12, they could do something to make it the right size. My best friends husband owns a jewelry store and has done this quite a few times! Don’t worry about it!

Congratulations for your engagement. Any good jeweler can find out what your ring measurement is. Shop around and learn about whatever stone you want to have in your ring. Go to the most reputable jeweler to buy one or go online to a place like QVC.com and buy one of their diamond-like rings.

Do not go into debt for the ring. Better to have a tiny diamond or pick another stone that to have that bill facing you after you get married. The marriage (you and him), not the ring or the wedding ceremony or the reception is what’s important.

You can look on ebay (you’re not the only one with big fingers)
You can go to a jewler and have a ring re sized (I think they can go up or down 3 sizes… or something like that)
Or you can have a costom made ring! even better! Its actually not that expensive for simple rings and simple ones are always the best in my opinion.

    good luck!

I know that the jeweler would be able to find out your size, b/c they have little rings that they put on your finger to determine the size, and they use the same “ring sizers” for men as for women. As my fiancee is a relatively thin/normal sized guy and he wears a size 10, I’m sure that their ring measurements go up to at least a 15.

I know that there are some places that have size 12-15 rings (I found some websites below just by doing a yahoo search for “size 15 ring”), but I think that you’ll have to go to the jeweler to find out their selection. You have to go to get sized anyway, so while you’re there I would ask them if they carry many women’s size 12-15 rings (or whatever your size is). The worst they can tell you is no, but perhaps they have a selection of plus sized rings.

I think you’ll get some better answers than mine from people who have bought plus sized rings, because there are tons of people who have that size rings and they are buying their jewelry somewhere! If there’s a market, jeweler’s will cater to it because that’s how they make money!

Best wishes on finding a gorgeous ring!

P.S. Definately don’t settle on a cheap ring or no ring!

Go to a good local jeweler, especially where they make custom jewelry and rings. (We have one in town, he is so talented!) Yes, they have rings of all sizes, my husband’s ring is a size 13. The jeweler can custom make any setting you like with what ever size stone you pick. With a big hand, you’ll need a larger stone, or a combination of stones so you don’t look like you’re wearing a diamond chip. And get the best diamond you can afford, it’s going to last a lifetime. And with a big hand and ring, get six prongs to set your stone, not four. It will be more secure. Best wishes on your engagement!

No you should be able to get the jeweller to size it correctly and have it made to fit. The best bet is to take it to the jewller you git it from so they know what they are doing without ruining the bad on your ring.

Overweight doesn’t necessarily mean big fingers. I’m majorly overweight and my ring size is a 7 1/2.
Don’t think for one minute that you can’t get a ring! There is always a way!! If not a bridal set, then there are lovely options with gemstones…

go to http://mdcdiamonds.com/EngagementRings.cfm they make every ring to order so making it in a larger should be no problem the only difference may be if there are diamonds all around the ring it may cost another hundred dollars or so.
